I hope everyone is having a grand day! If you have not seen the images from Mitzi Sato Wiuff at Aurora Wings you are missing out. She has created the most lovely fairy, sprite & mermaid digital images for us to color. So today, I present to you Hyacinth Sprite.
I will be entering her in the #68 Aurora Wings Challenge. We were to share our favorite fairy tale theme. Well, maybe not exactly considered a fairy tale, but I grew up with my mom and grandmother reading me stories from two prominent authors/artists of their time.... Most of you are probably familiar with Cicely Mary Barker who wrote The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies (see pictures below) and many other break off versions. And, one perhaps that isn't as well known, but I remember fondly was Vegetable and Fruit Children by Edna Groff Deihl and illustrated by Vera Stone also known as Aunt Estes Stories. (see pictures below) They all reference fairies in either poems or stories and are fantastic. My inspiration comes today from the polyanthus & grape hyacinth print from Cicely.. However, I didn't want to stick with the more usually accepted color of hyacinths and went with a more peachy color and I left out Polyanthus so you will just have to pretend she is there.
I kept my card simple for the simple reason that Hyacinth Sprite is the star of the card and I didn't want to detract or draw the eye away from this adorable sprite. So without further ado......
Here are more pictures of the card that I have created today....
Oh Pamela! I just love your interpretation of our theme and I see you must have figured out the linking to your post process by yourself, as I just saw and replied to your email a little while ago. I'm a huge fan of the Flower fairies and now will have to look up the vegetable and fruit children stories, as well. (Have you seen the fruit and vegetable Sprites?) In any case, your coloring and fussy cutting is fabulous and she just pops against the olive background. CAS was definitely the way to go here. Thanks so much for joining our "Once Upon a Time" challenge at Aurora Wings. xxD
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed reading where your inspiration came from, Pamela! It's great to see the Hyacinth Sprite with pretty peach colored flowers. Great coloring, and CAS makes for a stunning presentation! Thank you for joining us at Aurora Wings. Mitzi xx

Pamela, I absolutely adore this little sprite. You did an awesome job coloring her and I love your CAS style. I don’t know the books you referenced but am amazed they stayed with you throughout the years. Hugs.
